Special Rate Variation information downloaded from Port Stephens Council website

"Port Stephens Council is facing increased pressure to provide enhanced services and facilities to meet the high standards our community expects. In recent years, Council has implemented a range of productivity savings, reduced costs across our operations and been assessed as financially sustainable by the NSW Government.

However, our community is telling us they want more investment in their local area. There are parts of our local government area which require significant work and to achieve this, Council is considering an application to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) for a Special Rate Variation (SRV) in 2019.

If successful, this proposed rate increase will provide additional funds to deliver major projects requested by the community – stimulating local economies, driving business growth, attracting visitors and enhancing our region for the benefit of all.

We are conducting a comprehensive community consultation process from late July, presenting the community with a range of options to consider and provide feedback on. Our community will have a major say in any application made to the State Government."

This Special Rate Variation will effect all residents of Port Stephens whether they are property owners, renters, businesses or farms. It is important to attend the meeting and/or make your views known to the Council on the website:

At the  PSC ORDINARY MEETING on 24 July 2018 a NOTICE OF MOTION ITEM 1:  LOT 424 HALIFAX HOLIDAY PARK to delay the inclusion of lot 424 into Halifax Holiday Park.

This matter was deferred until the Mayor and Councillors could visit and familiarise themselves with the site to be better informed to make a decision on the site's future.

The area concerned is public parkland heavily used by both community members and visitors alike and any change of use would mean less public parkland for public use and the possible future removal of mature trees for the installation of more cabins.

Direct access to Shoal Bay Beach from Little Beach would be heavily curtailed, a particular inconvenience for those forced by westerly winds to vacate Little Beach. Nearby residents would have to contend with increased noise and pollution from additional motor vehicles, BBQs and parties, and the natural bushland setting would be lost.

It has been noted in the Notice of Meeting Attachment 1 that in the past Council has endorsed proposals to exclude Lot 424 from revisions to the Halifax Holiday Park and that Community Consultation should take place before any proposed amendment.  This has not happened.

The Shoal Bay Community Association believe this integration of public parkland should not be integrated into the Halifax Holiday Park.  Let Councillors know your views on this matter by email and or attending the Councillors visit.

The Mayor’s office has announced that the Mayor and Councillors will be attending Lot 424 Halifax Park on Monday 27 August 2018 at 16:30 (4.30pm) for a site inspection.

Rick,

Further to our phone conversation, please see attached a copy of the gazette notice incorporating Lot 424 into Reserve 91621.

To confirm the Halifax Holiday Park and Lot 424, comprise Reserve 91621 which is part of the Port Stephens Holiday Park Reserve Trust.  Port Stephens Council is the appointed Crown Land Manager under the Crown Land Management Act 2016.

I hope this assists.
